Rains force World Finals cancellation

The heavy rains and flooding that has troubled the West over the last week canceled this week’s World Finals at Bonneville.
Typically, the Southern California Timing Association’s World Finals falls off the radar for hot rodders. When they say Bonneville, they think Speed Week in August. But the World Finals generally offers more attempts at speed runs due to the lower attendance, and many racers at this year’s Speed Week — which saw a record attendance — looked forward to the World Finals, originally scheduled from Wednesday through Saturday.
According to a message posted on the SCTA and Bonneville Nationals Incorporated Web site, though, a storm that passed through Wendover on Saturday dropped enough rain to force the cancellation of the World Finals, just as storms halted last year’s Speed Week.
The SCTA’s next two events will take place at El Mirage in California, on October 22 and November 11-12.
